Hannan Center’s mission is to preserve the dignity of seniors in Michigan by enhancing their quality of life and providing them with the guidance they may need as they age. Their fundamental values are: (1) commitment to healthy aging; (2) senior empowerment; (3) respect and dignity of seniors; and (4) innovation to enrich individuals’ lives as they age. These core values aim to support seniors so they are able to reach their potential and allow them the opportunity to connect to a community of their own choosing. Part of Hannan Center’s goals is to not only identify ageism, but also actively combat it. To support aging adults, they hold classes and workshops through their Beyond U program; Beyond U engages participants in social interaction to promote personal enrichment, while simultaneously utilizing strength-based approaches to learning to nurture and emphasize intellectual growth. Offered classes and workshops grant seniors exposure to various fields and topics, including: fine and performing arts, technology, finance, creative writing, and culturally based health, safety, and wellness– all of which are taught by professionals in their respective fields of expertise. Hannan Center also has community partnerships with Senior Housing Preservation Detroit and Aging Services Consortium.
